Thanks For The Memories, Peyton

Admit it: You all knew it was coming.

The signs all pointed to Peyton Manning calling it a career. Sure, you might have heard the rumblings that he wanted to keep playing, but that’s typical of people who are about to leave a job they truly love, regardless of the reasons they may be about to leave.

But after four straight AFC West titles, two AFC titles and one Super Bowl win, along with a record-setting 2013 season and the passing records all claimed, there was nothing more for Peyton Manning to prove.

Not as a member of the Broncos. Not as a member of any other team.

Peyton Manning To Retire

This time, the news spreads out further than Woody Paige.  And take a look at who first broke the story:

Mortensen, as you’re likely aware, is battling throat cancer, and had not been heard from since he began that battle on January 16.  If Manning chose Mortensen to be the one to break the news, that may have been the most classy and awesome way to do it.

General Thoughts On Broncos And SFAs

Since we are seeing the list of street free agents growing, I wanted to toss out some general thoughts about who the Broncos would likely consider, in terms of positions of need.

We have already seen some familiar names cut and more are likely to come. What I want to do is sort out specific positions, rather than naming names, to get an idea of what the Broncos will be looking for.

Because I talked about quarterbacks yesterday, I won’t go into that again, but look at other positions in which a street free agent could come into play.
