Would Kaepernick to the Broncos Be Possible?

There was discussion earlier today about the possibility of Colin Kaepernick coming to the Denver Broncos.

While on the surface, it doesn’t appear to make sense given that the Broncos want to see what their younger QBs, Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch, could do as a potential starter, that doesn’t mean signing Kaepernick can be ruled out.

We know that last season the Broncos attempted to trade for Kaepernick but couldn’t work out logistics ranging from draft pick compensation (the Broncos offered a third-round pick but the Niners didn’t want such a pick because it came so late in the round) to contract structure (the Broncos and Kaepernick couldn’t agree to terms on a restructure) that the trade fell through.

Ring of Fame rules state that a member has to have been with the Broncos for a minimum of four years. However, rules can be excepted at any time, as the Ring of Fame did in waiving the five year waiting period for John Elway. It is with that observation that sets the table here for DeMarcus Ware’s consideration.

DeMarcus Ware arrived at the Broncos at a juncture in which so much hope and promise from the past season ended in deep disappointment. With an aging quarterback at the helm that would end up having only two more seasons in the NFL, the Broncos’ front office was determined to make a move that would improve their defense, specifically at pass rusher.

John Elway filled that hole by signing Ware, a seven time Pro Bowler and four time First Team All-Pro. In 37 games, Ware contributed a total of 21.5 sacks, as well as his veteran experience and the last few years of his unique physical talent.  That contribution helped to earn Ware the one final piece of his stellar career that his former team was chronically unable to provide him: a Super Bowl ring.

Some General Thoughts For The Upcoming Season

I have watched some film of the Broncos past season along with the last four games of the San Diego offense and one game from the Miami Dolphins defense. Because of the big change in coaching staff from last year to this upcoming season, it’s more important to note what the current coaching staff did last year then what the previous coaching staff did. This means we have to look at what Mike McCoy, Vance Joseph, and Joe Woods hold true.
