Forgive me for the pun, it was just too easy.

Former Broncos Center Chris Myers Retires at 33
10 year NFL vet Chris Myers announced his retirement from the league this morning, thanking his fans on twitter:
Thank you to @HoustonTexans @Broncos my family and especially the fans for making a kids dream come true! #micdrop pic.twitter.com/CGSlnqgODq
— Chris Myers (@CMyers55) August 25, 2015
Myers was a 6th round pick in 2005, and followed his offensive coordinator, Gary Kubiak to Houston a few seasons later. Many, including myself and others at In-Thin Air has speculated that Myers may follow Kubiak back to Denver. This may have been a situation where Mile High insiders knew Myers was contemplating retirement, and that’s why he was not signed. We will never know if Myers retired due to lack of interest, or if there was lack of interest because he was planning to retire. Either way, he was a class act on and off the field and we at In-Thin Air wish him luck in the next chapter of his life.
Peyton Manning Has Had No Feeling In His Fingertips
Via Peter King, a quote from Manning himself:
It’s crazy. I’ve talked to a doctor recently who said, Don’t count on the feeling coming back. It was hard for me for about two years, because one doctor told me I could wake up any morning and it might come back. So you wake up every day thinking, Today’s the day! Then it’s not.
King also has other tidbits regarding Manning and the Broncos that you can read in more detail, including:
- Manning’s insistence that the flu and resulting quad injury from dehydration in the road game against the Chargers were the only thing that kept him down.
- Some insight into the pay cut that John Elway forced Manning to take.
- King also believes that there are “major” offensive line concerns.
And in an interesting undercard in King’s article, he notes that Stan Kroenke is hoping to seal the deal for the Los Angeles Rams by building a new studio for NFL Network.
My commentary will some soon in the comments section.
A Pro Tip For NFL.com…
If you’re so embarrassed by a video that you feel compelled to remove the video from your website, you might want to, I don’t know, actually remove the file itself from your server, instead of just deleting the database record of that file from your content management system:
As for the content itself, while Cris Carter’s “fall guy” comments are terrible and getting all the media attention, I’m more jarred by the mere presence of Warren Sapp in this symposium. I hope that this year, the next speakers told the incoming rookies that assaulting prostitutes is a horrible thing to do.
Broncos at Texans: The 10 Things I Liked and the 10 Things I Didn’t
The second preseason game is where we start to see the team positions take place. Unfortunately, preseason games are often filled with penalties and this one is no exception. What killed us the most in this game were the bad penalties that gave the Texans much needed yards. Thankfully, there was more good than bad to walk away with in this game.

The Trevor Siemian Hype Train Needs to Slow Down
This morning, while trying to find analysis of last night’s preseason game, I found a very interesting article in SB Nation on the Broncos new third or fourth string quarterback. As Josh Burton writes, as only a SB Nation writer could:

Quick Takes: Broncos at Texans, 2015 Preseason Week 2, 14-10 Win
Hi there, everyone, I’m LH Almeida, writing all the way from Sao Paulo, Brazil, to fill in for Luke. I hope I’m up to the task. So the Broncos went all the way South to face the Texans, and this is my Reactions to the game.
First of all, I’d like to say that, if we were all flying miles high after the first preseason game, this one probably brought us down to earth. Our team is in a weird mix of two modes that seem to be opposites: win-now and rebuild. We have Manning running out of time, with his window of time smaller than ever, yet we have new coaches everywhere, and a new system to be implemented. We’re still a work in progress. As this is Leo’s, I’m just filling in, I’ll keep his three categories:

Since We’ve Already Filed Two AFC West Rivals…
…we may as well file the third one. Drew Magary talks about the Kansas City Chiefs.
As you probably guessed, Magary picks on Captain Checkdown a lot, but the Andy Reid animated GIF is pretty funny, too.
Marcell Dareus Is The Latest To Chase An Outlier Contract
The Bills have offered Dareus more than $90 million over six years, per a source, but Dareus seeks more. All indications are that he wants to be paid on the level of Ndamukong Suh, who signed a six-year $114 million extension with the Miami Dolphins this past offseason. Dareus is scheduled to make $8.06 million this season.
Asked if he had a contract number in mind, Dareus smiled and said “I’ll just say, ‘Thank you, Suh.’”
