Providing a home for those wishing to read and write insightful commentary on the Denver Broncos and more
Shocking, I know.
By the way, Wyoming graduate and former Colorado prep Tanner Gentry will be on the field for the Bears tonight. I was quite impressed with his play when I briefly took a look at Josh Allen a while ago, and reportedly he’s been showing very well at Bears training camp. Basically, if he balls out tonight, he deserves a swift kick in the dick for not signing with us, and postgame would be a great opportunity to do so.
He’s got more action on the cover of that magazine than he’s had in any game!
Von Miller always the consummate teammate and showing some great leadership.
*sniff* our boy’s all growed up!
Brief old friend Eddie Yarborugh is starting in Buffalo…and just sacked Sam Bradford.
Nice to see and hear Brian Griese in the booth on the Broncos’ telecast.
Brian Greasy doing commentary for the game? Is this a new thing?
Yeah. It had been John Lynch, but… y’know.
He provided commentary on Broncos’ radio broadcasts previously. He works for ESPN as a college football analyst.
Woot! Getting pre-game jitters!
Captains: DT, Sanders, Talib, Wolfe, McManus. Bears receive.
How fitting…no fly zone first score of the year!
CHJ just earned the night off.
NO FLY ZONE FOR SIX, BABY!
Go for two!
Was reading a Bears forum, and one of the posts was like, “How long until we are all freaking out? One game? One quarter? One play?” Suffice it to say, one of those was way closer than the others.
Bwahahaha…Stupid bears fans….smirk….
Look at those empty seats!
3 and out!
Dang. I wanted to see McKenzie return some punts.
So after two Mike Glennon flubs, are Bears fans missing Cutler?
Jamal Carter getting looks on defense and running around already. Haven’t heard much about him in camp, but I still like his potential as a moneybacker.
Menelik my Balls, Watson!
Balls, I missed the sack. Game Pass didn’t come back on quick enough.
Local broadcast was on break for the first 3 offensive plays, too. Whoops.
Interesting. The flag graphic was up before they threw the flag…
And the crowd cheers a flag defensive pass interference.
Watson, you’e killin’ me man.
He’s killin’ Trevor as well
And he may still be the best option there.
He’ll be great by week 4
But will there be any QBs still standing by then?
We have the best 3rd string QB of the league!
The Bears are bitches, rofl
Did John Fox issue a bounty before the game?
good to see the camera crew is in pre-season mode also
Damn, let them play, refs!
…except if it’s on the bears….
Garcia got whooped by Unrein.
Who’d you rather have? Unrein or Crick? I’m thinking Unrein.
Dunno. I think Crick is a better pass rusher, but Unrein is more stout against the run.
Pass rush isn’t our weakness. I’d rather have Unrein.
Plus he’s a Wyoming Grad.
Surprised the Bears declined that holding call. That was a chipshot for McManus.
No confidence in his team.
Not impressed by the new and improved O Line yet.
Trevor is getting pounded.
Nope. Hopefully they’ll gel before the beginning of the season.
Fingers crossed our QB’s make it that for without an injury.
It is new.
Online not gelling RT getting pushed back by a poor Chicago D
A better showing in the red zone would have been nice.
Kickoff coverage needs some work.
Last thing we need is McManus pulling a hammy trying chase that bullshit down.
Looked like it was on Latimer, to me.
At the game… Bolles forgot he was on the FG team… Schofield jumping up and down and got his attention
Wondered what the hell was going on there
Leary looking good.. Watson is terrible
The Bad News Bears strike again!
Watson just got laid out
Rookie showing up!
That fumble recovery was Bennie Hill esq.
carter was pumped he ended up with the ball
Watson beat again.. Bolles looking solid
So what’s the over/under on games until Fox gets fired?
In Chicago? 100/1 he finishes the season.
Our d looks great…
I thought Olivo was going to make ST better?
He has to be losing his shit right now.
Even though that was a good punt, I still really don’t like that call. It’s the preseason, go for it on 4th and 2 at their 38.
The first or the 55 yd field goal?
I thought Fox was coaching the Bears?
Raining in Chicago now
In case you missed it
Reviewing that, I have no idea what Glennon was thinking there. Way too much traffic to just throw it up like that.
Jamal Carter is totally lining up as a nickel linebacker.
Gotta wrap up on tackles.
Seriously, play through the whistle. Garret Bolles wouldn’t let that shit go if he was on defense.
Or maybe that guy lives up to the hype
Little RB from chicago Tarik Cohen
Who? What hype if neither of us know his name?
Im watching the game on a Chicago station. They can’t shut up about him.
yeah sorry i forgot we have a sarcasm font now
Tarik Cohen from some dinky technical school. I haven’t heard anything since he was drafted, either.
Poor first quarter for oline.. solid D line play
Good work by Lorenzo Doss.
Not a good read by TS. Throwing 2 yds. short.
Cart on the field
that’s not good……hopefully nothing serious
Unfortunately unlikely, given his reaction.
Supporting his left leg
Damn…announcing crew thought it was his right leg or ankle.
Who? (Sorry, not able to watch)
Didn’t know he was from Boise state
He was a big deal here in town.
So was the Bears’ left tackle, Charles Leno, Jr., who came up to him on the cart.
How do we know you’re not on Chicago’s side tonight GrizzlyB?
You mean… the Bears?
Isn’t that your kind?
NFLN has Jim Miller and some random clown announcing via the Bears network.
It is painful. I need to figure out how I used to synch Logan with the TV.
Sam Rosen. He’s actually a decent writer.
Cowen is fast as shit!
Great play by the other Chris Harris
That was holding on Edebali.
Damnit! Give McKenzie a chance!!!
Watson out Stephenson in … thank god!!!
Never thought I’d hear that….dang…
I don’t get why Siemian is still in but all the other starters are out.
Getting a longer look for the competition?
They want him to get used to playing behind a shitty line.
No push on run play… Stephenson doing a better job
Dillon Day once stomped an LSU player’s stomach on a play far downfield. Also probably-intentionally stepped on another guy’s ankle earlier in the same game. Those golden locks are deceiving.
You’re biased against goldilocks
That was funny.
Latimer needs to do more of that……
That was a bad throw by TS.
Cody Latimer making plays per usual for the preseason.
He’s lined up as the backup of the toughest mofo of the league. It’s Sanders’ fault he never sees action.
Sunshine gave up a 1st down there, imo
and then they get stuffed on 3rd down…..sound familar?
As bad as the bears are they looked great on the 3 and 1
Terrible block by Stephenson.
Short yardage struggles continue. 🙁
Didn’t see who it was, but somebody let Bullard get squared up on that one.
Trevor with the Alex Smith state line.
Nice work Stephenson. Your move Watson.
Maybe they will be rotate in obvious passing/run downs. They both seem one-dimensional
Schofield can’t be any worse.
Both RT had poor performances but it the first preseason game.. they can only get better.. Bolles looked solid.. mean,
Hopefully it rubs off on the other guys.
The oline needs help, our D is solid, rested and ready.:. But again it’s the bears …
Still not convinced about the run D.
OMFG I actually want Sanchez to score on this drive, just for the laughs.
I would love it if he was by far the Bears’ best option at QB.
Imagine the controversy!
See, you don’t get plays like that in practice.
Lynch looks exactly as he has in practice thus far.
He should have dinked it off to Latimer when he ran out of bounds. Would have gotten at least 2-4 more yards.
RT and center getting man handled
Ty not looking bad at all🙂
Brock Olivo has some work to do.
This is the *exact* same team as last year, sans Ware.
And the horrible schedule
Walker got overexcited and lost contain on that one.
Hey, we’ve all been there before.
Dude stepped out of bounds 4 yards back from where the refs spotted the ball!!
He stepped otu at the 48!
Ref’s are in preseason form as well, apparently.
I feel like I’m talking to myself here.
Day 41: Now it looks like a bear is talking to me.
Langley, you are not supposed to get blocked by a QB
It’s not like Denver’s QBs have been much better.
Just got off work. 6/7 looks good, must be situational frustration huh?
Yeah, but he threw 2 yards short on a 3rd and 4. For comparison, Lynch just threw 3 yards past the sticks on 3rd and 2.
That’s not great.
And about 2 yards over the head of his receiver. #plusorminus2yards
He held ball too long at least three times. Made safe, short throws… alas 6/7.
Not that Lynch has been any better…
Fuck! I thought you were talking about lynch in the first paragraph
Stephenson beat bad
Didn’t think it could get worse than Watson. Forgot about Stephenson for a minute…
I think Ref’s should start adding the name of the player called for the flag. Add a little more shame to it.
Our QB are getting beat up…
Sunshine is not a good gunner
Best player tonight has been Latimer. Ridley looos decent too with limited holes.
Lynch held the ball too long and over threw. Should have threw to where he knew he’d be and throw it low. It was only for 2 yards.
Is Scho at RT at all? Can’t be worse than Donald..
Hasn’t been on the field yet (except STs).
Punt coverage has been shitty tonight.
So has kick coverage. Hard to tell in PS really though with kick coverage. I have high hoes for Olivo but Joe DeC got the shaft.
Adam Gotsis got completely obliterated on that last Bears’ running play.
But but… he put on 15 pounds?! Lawl
Another early round draft pick bust. No business reaching for a project at that spot.
Somebody also got totally turned around and missed the tackle. I think it was Kerr, but maybe Harris.
Have only been able to watch bits and pieces but seems like Siemien was ok… and Lynch has so far been bad.
But we know we need to give these guys more time (and coaches more time) for them to work out kinks and to evaluate. First string OL seemed okay, second has looked bleh, tho again only seen bits and pieces.
D looks great as usual. Sorry to hear about Winn’s injury.
Any 2 TE sets?
This is the deep part of the defensive roster playing, let’s not panic.
I have like zero panic about the D. It’s offense (specifically OL and QBs) that will worry me (and all of us), but yeah who cares about this drive.
Run defense needs help if we lose any starter, tho
Agreed, o line and QBs of an 8 win team…
I think John Fox should just order the offense to take a knee here.
Trubisky looked pretty good for first ever drive.
Hopefully he’ll get the Bears fans all excited and enthusiastic. Their tears at 8-8 will be all the more enjoyable.
I miss Cutler showing no expression at all on the sidelines.
The Bears still have most of their projected starters in.
John fox don’t fuck with rookies
Aaand then I realize trubisky was not drafted last year
First round QBs aren’t allowed to have rookie seasons. They must enter the NFL perfectly ready to play, or else they’re a busted pick…
We just got Trubisky’d by Mitch Tits.
Did you just make that up?
I proudly take credit for Mitch Tits. It’s completely in my wheelhouse of Dry, 4th grade, potty humor that earns me lots of “looks” around my house.
Our oline looks terrible
Stephenson and Watson just terrible
Edebali whiffed on that TD, miss Dekoda, ha.
Henderson still got the dropsies… but VJ’s brother coached him so don’t worry!
I just saw that. He got rag-dolled.
Didn’t we draft a return specialist ?
If this is the improve oline our QBs are in trouble..I’m at the game .. bolles was solid and mean, Garcia man handled Leary nice job….Ty looked good…
Without Parisian we are in trouble… I know we are brining him in slowly but our center was getting killed
I wasn’t watching specifically, but I saw twitter saying that McGovern did well, as expected. Are you referring to Day?
For those who remember today’s daily thread.
When I first saw that tweet I thought to myself, “this is why you never leave your phone around your friends without a password lock.”
Impossible for the young QB’s to improve and get in the groove behind that Oline.. Ouch
They look worse in person… especially against a poor Bears ream
Not a great look for C.Henderson.
Olivo slides a comforting arm around him…
Wow. Trubisky must be the best QB evah. The NFLN guys are talking like he’s already MVP and ROY.
I love our WR depth. If only we had a ol.
Our OL has looked like crap and I know they were bad last season BUT i don’t think it’d be wrong to caution any of us against making grand pronouncements about how they will ultimately be this season after a half in first game of pre season. :/ Am definitely worried about depth of OL but some new players, some new coaches. I’ll give it to exhibition game 3 before full blown worries
but the more we complain the better they get
Man if only!
😉 Be five pro bowlers by now if that was the science, haha.
You’re a better man than I am.
That was a nice pass
Griese is pretty insistent that Sunshine screwed up by taking the inside leverage on a go route. Is that actually true? I thought on deep routes, you take whatever leverage the CB is giving you so you get off the line and get going.
Not 100% sure. However, that ball was way overthrown, so inside or outside wouldn’t matter.
Good question. On late down short yardage shots like that, the timing is so quick that ball should be targeted to an area. No time for post snap adjustment. I’d venture to say Gresie is right, Play was called and run the same way it was drawn up.
I don’t understand the value in having a QB play the way the Bears are playing Trubisky right now. They’re putting him on the move every single down against 3rd-stringers who haven’t game planned for him. Of course he’ll have success, but you’re not going to be able to win games like that in the regular season, imo
Give him overconfidence so he throws picks like crazy on game 1.
Very different playing against Langley at CB rather than Chris Harris Jr…
Well our first round QB can’t find his ass with both hands, so there’s that.
I don’t know what that has to do with anything, as Trubisky has made it known that he likes finding tittiess with his mouth.
Finding them where?
It’s 2017 — you can’t be picky anymore.
Stewart forgot this is a preseason game I guess.
Is Doss getting checked out?
He should have, took a friendly shot to the back of the head.
That’s it! I’m ready for the Kyle Slotter Era.
If Slotteritis is wrong I don’t wanna be right.
Don’t know about you but I’m ready to give Kaepernick a try out.
Him kneeling during the national anthem can’t be any more offensive to anyone than our offense has been tonight.
Don’t we actually want our offense to be offensive?
That comment creates an infinite loop.
Can he play right tackle?
Mitch Titties for President?
Get er dun Paxton
#58 don’t want none.
Apparently neither TS or PL like Latimer. They’re both trying to get him killed.
“Hospital balls are the best balls”. ~ PFM, maybe
Latimer needs to catch 60 balls and sign with Jacksonville for 3rd round comp money.
We punted on 4th and 2 from CHI 38 earlier, didn’t we?
The oline sucks!!!
Now there’s a creative play call.
Totally worth the time out.
This is going to be a long season. Is Chi still using any of their defensive players expected to be in the rotation?
I don’t know, but Reuben Randle is, like, a 7-year vet.
Well their only TD was caught by a what? 8-year old vet cruising on a 2 good seasons resume?
So far, Cody Latimer, and Tit jokes have been the highlight of this game for me.
you had me at tits…..
Chill people, this is preseason. Coaches are looking for info, not W’s
You know we are bronco fans, right?
We have four games to enjoy, no matter the outcome. Finally, football is back, relax and enjoy!
Relax? You must be watching a different sport.
Text me your dealers number.
Relax? That’s funny…
When your Vet olinemen get man handled by the Chicago bears you don’t chill…
You can’t get a lot of info if you’re just punting away, unless all you want is special teams tape
That was a Von-caliber hold.
It’s got to draw blood to get the flag…
Was that a late hit on Cruz? Or he’s just too brittle?
4th year player should know better than to spike the ball.
Trubisky does look very good. Broncos are in desperate need of a QB (amongst other things).
That moment you realize you are jealous of The Bears QB situation.
Broncos haven’t lost their touch at giving up third and more than 15.
Maybe the Bears defense will prove to be better than expected.
Maybe the 2018 #20 pick will be spent on a RT.
I’d get it one piece at a time
And it wouldn’t cost me a dime
I haven been able to watch as closely as I would have liked. It seems like Sambrailo looks better this year. I hope Cody can keep this momentum rolling.
I envy you.
Preseason Football Attendance: Catch the fever!
3rd and 1, fucking A.
We can do eeet
No we can’t.
We did do eeeeeet
Maybe the TV line to gain was off, but if not, that looked like a generous spot. I’ll take it!
Trevor has an ear piece in listening to the calls, Lynch is just standing around looking goofy
Trevor needs to practice clipboard holding, Lynch needs to master looking goofy for the huddle.
By “huddle” you obviously mean Madden covers and HOF busts?
If Peyton Hillis can have a Madden cover, why not?
Why oh why did McDouche trade the Rambling Redneck?
Slotter will be running the huddle!
A short yardage run resulting in a first down. ::slow clap:::
Fuck yeah Slotter!
Scheu is pronounced “shoy”? MIND. BLOWN.
I think that Henderson run was the highlight of my night offensively at this point.
And it is a shame that it was negated by a holding penalty.
Yeah I knew it was still the best play I’ve seen.
And of course the line f’d it up.
He’s trying to tie TS’ record of throwing dropped INTs
Henderson has some moves…….too bad it had a holding call on the play.
I honestly didn’t see anything there worse than what the Bears have been doing. The refs must have figured the Denver o-line had to be holding to open up a decent hole like that.
Do you think Mike Sawaya has ever broken any kneecaps? That seemed more like a mafia commercial than a law firm commercial.
I don’t think he has enough functional strength to do that. He would have to refer or hire out for kneecap breaking.
him and azar run togeather and strongarm ya’
“Strongarm” does sound like an underworld drug lord moniker.
Punch Glen Lerner into YouTube. I wouldn’t let this guy argue a parking ticket, but he made a lot of money in Vegas.
Go for 2
Yea!!! 3 string O
Looks like Schofield at LG
Mac Daddy!!!!!!!!!! Wide open!
McKenzie with the wheeeeels.
Bears are getting Slotered!
Schofield was calling for 2 but got shut diwn
yay for blown coverages
Lang held up pretty well 1v1 on the right side there.
Sloter is the new Russell Wilson. (Just go with me on this).
he’s selling magical water?
I’m drinking it.
I’ll take it.
Welcome to the Sloterhouse!
Sloter has as many TD passes as Trubisky.
I like Sloter even more than I liked Tom Brandstater aka Tom “Brandnewstarter”.
Sloteritis is the new Brandstateritis.
Omg a 3 and out.
We seriously aren’t getting any rush on them. To be expected, I guess, with none of our top 3 playing.
#20 is making the team
Love the hustle
Shakir Soto (#67) has had a solid quarter.
Raymond must want to keep his job.
Didn’t notice Raymond had a job to keep.
He must think he does.
More power to him.
Brandon Stokley has remained high as hell on him. TBH, I’m still considering the possibility that he’s our best option at slot WR.
Send Bernie to the Jets.
Sloter sure can ball!!!!
Kyle Sloter Elway across the body.
D.Henderson does have great balance.
Also, 10 holding calls? fucking a
Told ya we had the best 3rd stringer QB of the league
I missed most of the second half but how long before we get starts for Slotter to be the starter?
I think cases of Sloteritis were diagnosed in OTAs.
I know it’s third string but Schofield is throwing bears around like baseballs
Who was the sack on, I couldn’t tell but I hope not Schofield
Guard missed the blitz pickup.
Guard named Schofield or guard named something else?
Right guard, so Wilkerson.
Stop hating on scho man.. he played ok
I said above I hoped it wasn’t Schofield. I’ve been a big fan of his from the beginning. I’ve said multiple times this off season I think he’s likely the best bet at RT. I just saw the sack and I worried it was from where he was playing.
I’m worried he was with the third string tonight. Doesn’t look good for him.
Came from the center
Diffently not schofield
Gotta love our o line. Not.
Bears line did a really nice job opening a hole for him.
Looks like we only have one QB who has the cojones to take a sack like a man!! Sad!
I happy with our D neither QB stood out.. the oline needs to improve… kicking was ok…coaching average at best
How the hell did Schofield hold down a Super Bowl run? Did they just let him hold 2012-13 Ravens style or what?
**** you Chicago!
Schofield killed it on that…. again 3 string
I honestly haven’t seen him. Where is he playing?
Makes sense, that was the only guy I couldn’t identify on the 5 replays on that TD run.
Someone said #3 LG which would agree with the toilet paper depth chart from the other day.
Ok, Henderson is simply good. Nice draft pick.
Fuckin a Tweety! Nice playcall, great run Henderson!
He’s Barry Sanders reincarnated! Oh wait, Sanders still walks among us.
This De’Angelo Henderson is going to be a steal.
Hot damn Henderson!!
Henderson has been a bright spot no doubt.
Now we find out how good Trubisky is – against our scrubs
Who needs a QB when we have Henderson?!
Why is Victor Cruz still in the game?
Playing for Rich Cranium…..
I so want to see a pick six to end this.
So I remember the Broncos being really high on Kerr… looks like he’s on the roster bubble.
Batted a ball
Saw that just saying him being on the field right now makes you wonder if he’s on the bubble.
The Broncos lost Billy Winn to an injury in the first quarter.
Because he’s still playing? I’m not sure about that, since we’re a lot thinner up front than we wanted to be.
Should have been a 10 second run off there
Isn’t that only if the clock is still running?
It was. Spiked it.
But the penalty happened when the ball was snapped, and after the play was done, the clock would have been stopped when the penalty was applied. Illegal formations don’t stop the play like, say, a false start. So, the penalty didn’t cause the clock to stop.
It was illegal motion, I thought.
I think that’s actually right, but it doesn’t stop the play, either. The only penalties that would have earned the 10-second runoff are ones that would stop them from spiking the ball (I can’t think of any that would besides a false start). Or any penalty if they hadn’t stopped the clock, but they did.
Ah, that makes sense.
Lynch can’t scramble half as well as Trubisky. Sad.
So….. Barbre or Schofield?
Schofield over Watson
When the best RT is the #3 LG.
I’d like to see Sambo at RT. He held his own on the left side.
Where was the 10 second runoff on that illegal motion?
Broncos win! Broncos win!
In case you missed the 3rd stringers lighting it up:
How cool for Sloter. He’s truly gotten the short end of the stick the past 4 years playing football and regardless of what happens to him…. throwing a TD like that, even if it’s in the preseason, was pretty special. Not many get that opportunity.
Speaking of getting the short end of the stick:
I don’t necessarily buy that he was our best QB on the night, but I do think he outperformed one of these guys VJ is satisfied with. No points for guessing whom!
Actually, Sloter had the best QB rating of ALL the QBs on the field:
So with Glennon, the Bears either have $18M dead money or a $14M clipboard carrier…
I’m fully aware he had a perfect passer rating, but half of his yards and his TD came on a failed coverage when there was no one within 10 yards of the receiver, and he wasn’t even slightly pressured by a 3-man rush. The pass before that, he had an overthrow that literally went through a defender’s arms.
I’m not trying to hate on him since I do think he looked more in-control and accurate than we’ve ever seen out of Lynch, but passer rating on six throws doesn’t mean more to me than what I watched.
I mean, that’s fair. But at least he can hit a deep pass when his WR is wide open. Good lord, Lynch is bad. Hasn’t improved at all.
I wonder if Lynch took the time this off season to work his tail off – as he needed to. Doesn’t look like it. I wonder when all is said and done – if we have TS and Sloter as his 1st backup. Guess we will see.
I was not able to either watch the game or listen on KOA. I followed on ESPN – so I couldn’t see how anyone played. I am trying to glean that info from the comments. Thanks, guys!
Supposedly he did. But as D-Mac likes to point out, no one worked harder than Tebow, either. Working hard doesn’t mean much if you don’t work well. His example is that Tebow would throw the ball about 40 yards or so and hit the goalpost’s crossbar. Hard to do and technically demonstrates accuracy, but it’s not useful in football.
For example, two videos of Lynch’s workouts from the offseason were him running back and forth sideways (like horizontal shuffles, but kept facing downfield) and throw out of that, and a slow-mo take on his “improved” passing mechanics, where he took a shotgun snap and threw the ball the second he hit the top of a 3-step drop. The first… well, if you’re going back-and-forth in the pocket and still looking to throw, you’re in trouble regardless. The second, I thought his motion was still elongated and crappy (couldn’t time it because of slo-mo), and his receiver ran an out, but he still had to slow up and catch the ball off his back hip. If there was a defender, he would have had an easy time breaking it up, imo. If those represented most of his work, it probably helped him little-to-none.
Thanks, GrizzlyB! No – it does not look like the work he did was the work that he needed to do. Why didn’t he hire a retired QB to work one on one with him? Getting his footwork and passing mechanics working efficiently will make him or break him.
He actually did. He’s been working with Charlie Taaffe, who played at an FCS school in the early 70’s, and who coached college from then until 2014 (with a few years in the CFL). None of the schools really stand out, though, and his greatest feat (in my estimation) was being the offensive coordinator for Blake Bortles’ tenure at UCF. The problem with that, I think, is that Bortles is known to have all sorts of mechanical issues, and notably took up tutelage under a totally different personal coach in an attempt to fix them. To me, it seems like Lynch probably picked him because Taaffe is based in Lynch’s hometown, rather than being the best guy.
Of course, if Brent is any indication, maybe it’s just that much more difficult to get those tall QBs to get their mechanics down. I do think his feet being erratic and an elongated arc when throwing are significant flaws in his motion… but I’m hardly an expert.
It seems to me that someone should have sat him down and explained that he had a 2 year window – 3 at the most – to make a positive impression in the NFL. He should have moved to where the best QB coach who would work with him lived.
Lynch is 6’7″. So is Brent. Manning is 6’5″. Manning worked his tail off and he had good footwork. I do not know who his tutor was – but it must have been someone good. I understand his father Archie did not have good footwork – but was a helluva good athlete. Maybe that 2 inches makes a difference – but it seems to my amateur football mind that good tutelage would make up for that.
I do agree that taller guys have a more difficult time getting their legs and feet coordinated. Maybe he needed to incorporate some dance moves to increase his agility.
Is it just me, or did we not see Vance Joesph at all tonight?
The definition of well must be evolving.
Let’s hear it from Twitter!
Ummm, he didn’t play well…at all
He is delirious if he thought he played anywhere but slightly above the SUCK LINE.
Both of them are delusional.
I count two offensive penalties while Lynch was in, one of which was offset. For comparison, Siemian had four offensive penalties, two of which were offset (and one was declined because the Bears forced an incompletion, despite the holding penalty).
There’s also a lot of immediate reaction that Siemian and Lynch played pretty much the same. One had 7.3 YPA on three drives, and the other had 4.7 YPA on four, so I’m not sure I agree with that, but at this point I have to admit that I must not know what’s going on anymore.
I’ve not heard the post-game talk yet, but if VJ says PL played better than TS, then the conspiracy theory about the fix being in for PL is likely right. Neither played well. The best looking QB was Trubisky, followed by Sloter.
If that’s true, is Paxton Lynch going to be the next Rob Johnson?
Didn’t he have a good season or two, though?
Maybe one. I don’t remember.
He had one – for the Jags I think. Then Buffalo traded for him, overpaid, and he struggled once teams got more tape on him.
Let’s not jump to conclusions. His young QB needs more confidence and he is doing what he can to help. Problem is PL just isn’t ready. It’s obvious Siemian is the better player right now and I imagine the competition will be over immediately following the Niners game in favor of TS.
Elway grimices all season long as the QB he doesn’t want improbably wind close game after close game. 2011 all over again.
Elway said in the pregame show that he came down strong on the McCarron talk because it “affects the team”. By which he obviously means the QBs. Siemian put on a strong face through all that Romo speculation, but clearly it shattered his fragile little career-backup heart.
This might be the year I cave, and purchase “All-22”. I really want to see who, if anyone, is open on all these shitty throws I saw tonight. I re-watched some of the game, and outside of the first couple plays of the first drive where Menelick My Balls wiffed on his block, and what appeared to be McGovern failing to reach the second level on a blown up run play, the O-Line wasn’t AS horrible as I thought.
Really, you can only judge the first two drives. Watson sucked (who could’ve seen that coming??), but CJ had some decent holes.
And on the sack that Watson gave up, if his man hadn’t gotten there, Bolles’ man would’ve. Dude basically tossed Bolles out of the way.
Trubisky, Kizer, and Watson all looked better in their first games than Paxton in any game he has ever played in the NFL. It’s rather sad.
Did you watch Kizer? I just saw a headline that he “took the lead” in their race on NFL.com, but idk.
Also, add Sloter to that list imo
Sloter, without a doubt. Lynch is still a one-read QB. Play-action, look for the quick slant. If it’s there, he hits it. If it’s not there, he’s lost.
I do feel like I probably hate on him excessively, but I seriously don’t think he’s a 1st-round talent. He hasn’t progressed past the offense he ran in college yet, which is one thing, but there was also lots and lots of talk that he was football dumb (and dumb in general, in my estimation), and if anything that’s been worse than feared. He can throw far, and he occasionally drops high-difficulty dimes, but he’s not a great passer, either — inaccurate and inconsistent.
Despite all this, it feels very real that he’s being handed the job anyway. I just don’t get it.
I’m not sure why this surprises anybody. The FO has has been nurturing bad drafting habits for a good few years now, they rarely keep players ranging between average and superstar, and as far as I could tell last night, they have absolutely nothing waiting in the chamber on either side of the ball behind the starters.
After all that, I personally find it difficult to be surprised that Dove Valley is performing like the average management team that it clearly is. And average might be generous.
I shared the dream for the longest time, too, but Elway ain’t nothing special. Of course this is and was a sham.
Unfortunately, there were only two positive plays called back for penalties: one for 11 and one for 13. Both occurred in the fourth when Sloter was in. While Lynch was in, there was one offsetting penalty and one holding penalty during an incomplete pass. The suckitude was not driven by penalties.
Pax is going to talk himself into concussion protocol.
So, where was the pass rush?
Well, two best edge rushers were not in uniform. Gotsis is bad, a total waste of a high draft pick… that’s what happen when you let position coaches draft players over scouts. Also, Crick is not very good… try hard guy but gets pushed around alot vs. run.
I’ll defer to others on this, but Gotsis looked terrible tonight, IMO. He’s still getting washed out of plays completely, and I didn’t see him penetrate once. Kerr was also very disappointing. It’s almost like you have to spend money to get good players.
Can somebody explain to me what Trevor did so unsuitably last night? Other than a slightly inaccurate throw the might of got Cody Latimer killed in the right conditions, he looked poised, athletic, and first preseason game good to me.
I know half of you will never take the boot off his throat, but he was probably as good a player as we had on the field last night.
