A Pro Tip For NFL.com…

If you’re so embarrassed by a video that you feel compelled to remove the video from your website, you might want to, I don’t know, actually remove the file itself from your server, instead of just deleting the database record of that file from your content management system:

As for the content itself, while Cris Carter’s “fall guy” comments are terrible and getting all the media attention, I’m more jarred by the mere presence of Warren Sapp in this symposium.  I hope that this year, the next speakers told the incoming rookies that assaulting prostitutes is a horrible thing to do.

Marcell Dareus Is The Latest To Chase An Outlier Contract

Via Tyler Dunne:

The Bills have offered Dareus more than $90 million over six years, per a source, but Dareus seeks more. All indications are that he wants to be paid on the level of Ndamukong Suh, who signed a six-year $114 million extension with the Miami Dolphins this past offseason. Dareus is scheduled to make $8.06 million this season.

Asked if he had a contract number in mind, Dareus smiled and said “I’ll just say, ‘Thank you, Suh.’”

Julius Thomas Continues An Unfortunate Trend In Jacksonville

Via ESPN:

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Julius Thomas is likely to miss the rest of the preseason after suffering a broken left hand in the team’s 23-21 preseason win against Pittsburgh on Friday night, head coach Gus Bradley said.

Amazingly, this happened the first time Thomas touched the ball.  Broncos fans may sigh at how familiar this script looks, but remember that it’s in the Broncos’ best interest for Thomas to have a big year.  If Thomas doesn’t play enough snaps in the 2015 regular season the Broncos may only get a 4th round compensatory pick for him instead of a 3rd.  So let’s hope he gets his injuries out of the way in the preseason.

Nonetheless, Thomas get injured in some of the oddest ways.  If you watch the video of the hit in the ESPN link, you’d think that, if anything, if Thomas got hurt, it would have been a lower body injury.

Will The Nick Foles Extension Affect Brock Osweiler?

When I last discussed the possibility of extending Brock Osweiler, I expressed a difficulty in doing so because there was scant precedent for a player in his situation–a quarterback with several years in the league but hardly enough playing time to know on what side of the wide divide of starting quarterbacks his pay should reside.

Last week, we got what could be the closest comparable possible.  Nick Foles, who not only entered the league the same year as Osweiler, but was also his in-state college rival, signed an extension with the Rams.  I’ve been waiting on the details to come out before I comment on what this means for Osweiler, and they finally came out earlier this afternoon via Aaron Wilson and Jason La Canfora on Twitter.  You can find the full table from OTC beyond the fold. The Broncos Chose The Correct Edge Rusher In 2011…

Von Miller has had his own missteps off the field, but they were nowhere near as serious as those of Aldon Smith, and more importantly, he’s moved on from those mistakes.  Another TYJE may be in order here.

Arian Foster Reveals His Lack Of Religious Belief

Via ESPN’s Tim Keown:

Arian Foster, 28, has spent his entire public football career — in college at Tennessee, in the NFL with the Texans — in the Bible Belt. Playing in the sport that most closely aligns itself with religion, in which God and country are both industry and packaging, in which the pregame flyover blends with the postgame prayer, Foster does not believe in God.

“Everybody always says the same thing: You have to have faith,” he says. “That’s my whole thing: Faith isn’t enough for me. For people who are struggling with that, they’re nervous about telling their families or afraid of the backlash … man, don’t be afraid to be you. I was, for years.”

As a lifelong atheist who has never experienced any negativity for my own lack of belief in any supernatural power, I sometimes feel that the plight of the irreligious pales in comparison to other disadvantaged groups out there.  But clearly NFL locker rooms are a different animal.  We should all know that well having experienced the presence of the likes of Brian Dawkins and Tim Tebow on the 2011 Broncos.

The entire article is a longread, but I recommend taking the time if it piques your interest.
