Shelby Harris Contract Details

Per Aaron Wilson:

Harris’s contract table should look as follows, below the fold:

YearBase SalaryProrated BonusPer Game Roster BonusCap NumberDead Money & Cap Savings (pre-June 1)
2021$1,000,000$3,000,000$0$4,000,000$15,000,000($11,000,000)
2022$7,500,000$3,000,000 $500,000$11,000,000$11,000,000$0
2023$8,500,000$3,000,000 $500,000 $12,000,000$3,000,000$9,000,000

The Broncos are doing Harris right for two committed seasons, where he will get $15 million fully guaranteed and $18 million total in those two seasons to keep the APY consistent at $9 million throughout.

In my road map, I had approximated about $12 million to budget for a starting defensive lineman, based upon what they were on the hook for Jurrell Casey before they cut him, and that they should not retain both Casey and Harris. This contract comes in comfortably under that budget, and they indeed chose to retain Harris over Casey. Harris, Mike Purcell, and Dre’Mont Jones should form a solid starting interior defensive line for the Broncos at a reasonable cost for the next couple of seasons.
