5th Annual Thin Air Mock Draft Challenge

Edit: I decided since this is a Broncos blog we should add a Broncos tiebreaker. Specify who the Broncos first three picks are and what number pick they’ll be

Happy Draft week, Broncos fans! I thought I’d go ahead and post the mod draft challenge SMA has set up in years past. I copy and pasted most of his post from last year, so rules will work the same. SMA, if you want to take this back over, let me know and I’d be happy to relinquish the duties.

I have never done the mock draft before, but with no sports to root for for the past month, and nothing on the horizon, this seemed like a must do to make the draft as exciting as possible

These mock drafts really are a good time. Much like fantasy football or NCAA tourney brackets, they give you a rooting interest in the Draft. All of a sudden you’ll find yourself caring about who the Tennessee Titans and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers draft, and shouting “THAT’S RIGHT, KIPER!” and “YOU DON’T KNOW SHIT, TODD!” at your television, and any loved ones who share your home will no longer have any doubt that you’ve lost your damn mind.

Now that we’ve established the stakes, let’s get into the rules. I’ll give you until 5:00 pm MDT tomorrow to enter your mock into the comments below this post. You don’t need a lot of detail. Just list the FULL NAMES, ordered 1-32 but WITHOUT PICK NUMBERS, so I can copy and paste them into my scoring spreadsheet. I realize we can all edit posts, but I’m copying and pasting at 5 PM Mountain time on Thursday, so any sly maneuvers to beef up your picks after the fact will be in vain.

Points will be awarded as follows:

Correct pick (Player in precise slot where he is selected): 8 points
Off by 1 slot, early or late: 4 points
Off by 2 slots, early or late: 2 points
Off by 3 slots, early or late: 1 point

Trades will not affect the scoring as points are awarded based on draft slot. For instance, if you have Chase Young going #2 to Washington, and Washington trades out of the pick, but the team trading in still selects Young, you still get 8 points. You’ve assigned Young to the 2 slot, and it doesn’t matter which team takes him there. Make sense?

The draft order is as follows:

1. Cincinnati
2. Washington
3. Detroit
4. NY Giants
5. Miami
6. LA Chargers
7. Carolina
8. Arizona
9. Jacksonville
10. Cleveland
11. NY Jets
12. Las Vegas
13. San Francisco
14. Tampa Bay
15. Denver
16. Atlanta
17. Dallas
18. Miami
19. Las Vegas
20. Jacksonville
21. Philadelphia
22. Minnesota
23. New England
24. New Orleans
25. Minnesota
26. Miami
27. Seattle
28. Baltimore
29. Tennessee
30. Green Bay
31. San Francisco
32. Kansas City
