I’m at a soccer tournament in Tulsa and it’s night and day from most the rest of OK attitude wise.

Piper had it right that this is a pissed off state. Tulsa, though, is a breath of fresh air.

Maybe he should have talked to Nikki first.

      • DCJ1

Probably wouldn’t have done any good. Writing is one of those jobs where so many marginal talents swamp the job market that good talents like Nikki have trouble getting paid what they’re worth. Unless you’re really good and really really lucky, the marginals are always going to drag you down.

        • Drewredux

I think that applies most everywhere. The astonishing incompetence of some of my peers drove me out of counseling.

Hell, the politics in the counseling environment are far worse than anything I experienced working in politics.

I still can’t believe he hit a child in the genitals with a belt buckle.

I’ve met his parents multiple times, and it is hard to believe that this is a learned behavior.

In other words, I doubt that AP caught any belts to the dick in his youth.

        • Yahmule

I wonder if he ever had leaves stuffed in his mouth? Fundamentalist Christians positively fetishize corporal punishment of children. Some of them, such as Michael Pearl and his wife Debi, authors of To Train Up a Child, advocate beating babies. That book has been found in numerous homes where children were killed in the name of religious discipline.

And I got a like from this from Mike McCartney. Good to know that sports agents feel my pain.

      • Yahmule

Any agent worth his salt knows about you and respects your work.

        • Nick

          I hope that’s the case!

    • DCJ1

I hear your pain. Now imagine going through 30,000 gene names like MYC1 and PGY12 to find the few MAR1 and DEC7 genes names that got converted to dates. And once a date, always a date – changing the column to text changes the cell to the internal 8 digit number.

It literally took Excel 15 minutes to sort my sheet by gene name, 2 minutes to update the cells by wrapping the date-like value in quotes, and 25 minutes to put the sheet back into chromosome position order (two column sort). That happened once before I learned to _always_ set the column formats before typing or importing — “general” format is freaking evil.

      • Drewredux

Once you get the hang of it, it’s like magic.

      • Nick

What’s driving me nuts right now is that I can’t find a way to copy and paste an HTML table without the heights getting converted to dates. Text to Columns is doing the same thing at times as well. I’m having to resort to adding a new column and using the formula =MONTH(A2)&”-“&DAY(A2) to get it back to what it should be.

        End this madness, Excel!

        • DCJ1

Yeah, copy-paste and text-to-column always convert into general, which auto converts date-like values.

When you get fed up enough, you might try writing your own text to columns macro in VBA. Just put a single quote in front a the text you don’t want converted. An example of a text to column macro is at https://excelribbon.tips.net/T008317_Delimited_Text-to-Columns_in_a_Macro.

Personally, VBA makes my eyes bleed, so I’d be off writing a parser in Perl or something…

Yeah, I’m capable of writing VBA code but I have more important and enjoyable things to do.

50/50 or better that Chad K. opens against Seattle.

VJ’s favorite QB in the ‘17 draft. He also has a number of plus traits and his bag.

Keenum better not start with an Ortonesque preseason or shit might get dicey for him fast.

          • WhoShotBobbyHumphrey

K.O. was a superstar in shorts. Throwing the pads on, and dodging live pass rush was a different story. Keenum can buy time with his feet. I think he will be more like Jake, for us. Doubled with our Defense, that might be good enough.

          • WhoShotBobbyHumphrey

Chad Kelly is coming to tear this muthafuckin league apart!

      • InSiemianWeTrust

      JBJ has a sack, apparently.

I played with this kid that wouldn’t bail out for anything. He took more balls to the head and face than imaginable.

Always the same explanation: thought it might break.

      • Yahmule

Don Baylor was hilariously nonchalant about it. He would just rotate his body about 30 degrees and let the ball deflect off that cannonball left shoulder and then he would just jog to first.

Number of times hit by pitch: 267

Number of times he rubbed the spot where he got hit: 0

Has anybody besides McCarron contested this?

      • Nick

Not that I know of off the top of my head. McCarron’s case is different in the sense that the Bengals activated him off NFI before the season ended, but too late to get the 6 games needed to accrue a season. Kelly and Butt weren’t activated at all.

    • Drewredux

Does this apply to 1st rounders?

      • Nick

If the 5th year option was picked up, then no, since the player would accrue four seasons regardless.

But if it was declined, that would make for a more interesting case. I’m not sure whether a team would still have RFA rights in that case.

        • Drewredux

          Therein lies the rub.

If you drafted Josh Allen/Pax Lynch or any other traits prospect at QB and then made an excuse for NFI, you could redshirt him and deprive him of UFA, all the while manufacturing another developmental year that you wouldn’t normally have.

          • Kush-Lash

Isn’t this what happened to AJ McCarron?

          • Drewredux

Yes. First rounders are a little different as they come with a 5th year option.

If you NFI’d a fist rounder, and if that had no effect on that option, you could effectively tie up the player to a 6 year stay. If he is kicking ass at 4 accrued years, you’d get RFA parameters rather than have to pay him market his 5 year.

          • Nick

The player can’t be so good that it would be worth it for another team to give up a first rounder to sign that player to an offer sheet, though.

  • Yahmule

I literally took a calendar year off from watching the NFL, and I’m glad that was the year.

      • Nick

It wasn’t that bad of a season until they dropped multiple games in December and then “lucked out” in Week 17 by needing a win to get in the playoffs and drew a team that had nothing to play for and sat their starters.

Unfortunately, that team was the Colts, who just did reconnaissance for next week the entire game.
