KFC? And you live in KC? Blasphemous! That’s why you choked!
Remember, one of the most ironclad laws of entertainment is the the Law Of Simpsons Did It:
Jeff Triplette once again showed why he’s the worst ref in the league. Now it comes out that’s he’s retiring – NFL should not have let him do the game in KC yesterday.
“Horrible way to start the playoffs. I hate to say it but this was not a good performance by the crew. Teams and fans deserve better.”
While Triplette himself hold plenty of blame, one other thing Pereira has long criticized is the practice of breaking up regular season crews for the playoffs. I think his argument is good, and I liked how he worded it here:
I don’t get why they don’t put the highest rated crews in the playoffs, with the all-star game being a mixed crew of the highest rated officials who aren’t officiating the super bowl

I eagerly awaited an Al Davis reference. I was not disappointed.
Slightly disappointed. No mention of Davis signing someone with an Olympic gold to their name as a CFA?
The Broncos had a world class sprinter named Sam Graddy. He made one catch in two seasons in Denver. An utterly remarkable twisting diving grab down the sideline. Approximately a thousand other balls bounced off his hands, chest and helmet, 99% of them in practice. When we released him, he was signed by Al.
Was he related to Darius Watts?
That’s a deep cut from the Random Bronco Name Generator.
Graddy could have run faster than Darius while eating a bowl of soup. That was an all time great draft pick. Wide receiver with a deformed hand. Character from Necessary Roughness or Mike Shanahan’s second round pick in 2004?
They may have been trying to copy what SF did with sprinter Renaldo Nehemiah in 1982. He was able to have some success, unlike Graddy.
Here’s the full list of home playoff wins, post-merger:
Steelers and Patriots are going to be fighting for the top spot the next couple of weeks. The next four are SF at 20, DAL at 19, DEN at 17, and OAKLAOAKLV at 16. So clearly, the Raiders cannot be allowed to win another playoff game until the Broncos win at least one more, and preferably more.
And at the bottom of the list? Yes indeed, the Chiefs are tied for second to last with two, with the…Jaguars, who play in Jacksonville in a couple hours. If the Jags win the Chiefs will be in second to last all by themselves, with only the Lions sparing them from the basement.
I can read about the Chiefs futility all day. Whether it’s their various playoff pratfalls or going an entire season without throwing a touchdown pass to a wide receiver, they never disappoint.
This remains a Hall of Fame Deadspin comment:
The Lamar Hunt trophy is named after our dead founder and we’ve NEVER won the fucking thing! Meanwhile the fucking Broncos probably give them away as raffle prizes at their Christmas parties.
KC lost once Kelce was done. KC’s receivers need him roaming the middle of the field to get open.
Not crying any tears for them. They could have adjusted to running the ball more, but failed miserably at making adjustments once their Baby Gronk went out.
And Austin is what McKenzie dreams he could be. Just too small to be a factor.
This KC outcome you can’t even fantasize about properly. Your rational mind, driven by common sense and experience, says “The laws of chance have to favor these gutless asshats at least once in every four to ten decades…” Yet they figure out how to prison-rape the goat.
As was said of the Cubs until a few years ago, anybody can have a bad century.
The depths of their futility is astonishing. I had no idea it was that bad.
Bill Cowher just smashed a folding table on national TV. What a world.
This may be nothing but Jason let me know that the NFL rejected River Cracraft’s futures deal. Hopefully it’s just something clerical and they’ll agree to a valid contract on Monday.
Just watched TEN/KC on rewind…
My soul feels full right now – thank you, LOLChiefs.
Old friend Malik Jackson just destroyed about 3-4 Bills, including sacking Taylor.
He may be the only player in the game with a TD in the SuperBowl. I knew we couldn’t keep him but he is a beast!
And this guy was a 5th round pick. Heckuva return on that pick.
Bills / Jags
Patricia to Detroit? https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/01/06/matt-patricia-patriots-expect-defensive-coordinator-lions-coach-job
Campbell is a beast… really wish he would have picked us
DL ended up being one of the least problems, if Campbell chose the Broncos I don’t know if much changes.
I think he would have been a massive upgrade. He was ninth in the NFL in QB pressures with 73.
November 13, 2017
Fourth worst while having Von Miller, who was second to only Aaron Donald in QB pressures this season. That’s on the guys up front.
How much of that is also influenced by Denver consistently playing from behind?
Von had 73 last year and 79 in 2016, so that didn’t affect him in a measurable way. I think the only way to view the Broncos defensive line as a strength is by expecting the best case scenario for most of the guys we have. Peko will be 34 next year. Wolfe’s health is a massive red flag. We saw growth from some of the young guys but player development is not a linear process. We can’t expect all of them to show continued progress next season.
But would that upgrade be enough to cover a terrible offense? How many games do you think adding Campbell could have flipped?
That much more pressure has to translate into some turnovers and short fields. All academic now, but I think people will be surprised by how much attention the Broncos pay to upgrading the D line this off season.
He’s a massive upgrade to any team he plays for. We still don’t have a quarterback but he is a force and he’s always in on every play making things happen
I’m guessing it means we don’t get Leary. But I think it would have improved the pass rush which would have helped the defense.
That’s another point, it’s likely that the Broncos would have less cap available not only in 2017, but for 2018 as well, where they’re in a crunch to find a quarterback.
Vegas could have made a killing taking bets on the over/under of when the first offensive points of any kind get scored in this game. With the Bills backed up the first points period could be a safety.
My goodness, Bortles stinks.
We have such a weird immediate gratification culture that when he had three straight good games against demoralized Colt and Texans defenses and an injury riddled Seahawk secondary, there was a barrage of articles saying he arrived and rebuking his doubters. I wouldn’t trust that guy to make the office Starbucks run without fucking it up.

Anyone else enjoying all the Blake Bortles references in Good Place?
With both these teams underdogs as it were I figured I wouldn’t care Much who won but find myself rooting for Bills. Jax uniforms alone are reason to root against them.
The only reason to root for the Jags is the thought of them setting their slavering defense loose on Brady.
Yup. But given a Pats Steelers AFCC seems inevitable it’s fruitless to even think of these things. :/
We are on the same page.
I would like to have the Bills win but the Jags have best chance to beat the Patriots, which is always the goal.
Agree with the you guys… but as I said below not sure Jax wins at Pitt anyway. (Not that the Steelers are a juggernaut this year, I guess you never know.)
JAX won decisively at PIT in the regular season, clearly that's indicative of what will happen in the playoffs.
clearly that's indicative of what will happen in the playoffs.
Heh. That’s it, it’s decided. Go Jags! 😉
I don’t like PIT, but they have the best chance of beating the Patriots it would seem.
As long as you have a dominant pass rush, you always have a chance.
The good and bad of Tyrod. Scrambled for two first downs but missed his TE for an easy TD over the middle.
Man, they’re sure letting Ramsey get handsy out there.
Oh jeezus what a terribly sloppy poorly timed penalty for Jax.
And the Bills return the favor.
This has potential to match the Chiefs/Raiders TNF debacle.
Blake Bortles now has just one rushing yard less than LeSean McCoy has, and more than twice than Fournette.
This is like watching a Rams/Vikings playoff game back in the mid 70’s except it’s 49 degrees instead of four.
Come on, Buffalo. He’s going to hand you the game, but you have to take it.
Yeah this is like watching any other Sunday 11 a.m. game between these two. Whoever wins this simply wins the chance to get their ass kicked in a week or two
I seem to forget every year that pass interference is allowed in the playoffs
Is Taylor benched or injured?
Concussed, pretty bad from what it looked like.
Get ready your cutting edge skills, Alex Guerrero.
I wouldn’t over look the Jags.
Not enough to overturn imo
Really close though
Beautiful pick by Ramsey.
Doubtful buffalo had any chance even if they overturned it
Bills not good enough to win but that ball hit the ground
So after watching Alex Smith, Tyrod Taylor, and Blake Bortles in the playoffs, any referendums on who you do or don’t want the broncos to go after this off-season?
Smith. But only if the Chiefs release him.
What a crappy game that was.
Tyrod had 134 yards passing, while Blake had a whole 87.
Paxton would have looked good out there today.
No on Taylor and Bortles. Yes on Smith, but I doubt that the Chiefs would be willing to trade him to Denver.
No on Bortles. I still hold that Smith is moot because the Chiefs won’t let him get to Denver.
Taylor, on the other hand, might play out better for the Broncos financially now. It seems more likely now that the Bills will be unable to find a trade partner in a short period of time, and be forced to cut him before that $6M roster bonus is due on the 3rd day of free agency. The Broncos might be able to get him for cheaper between the vast $7M to $16M gap occupied by Trubisky the rookie and Dalton the vet. I’d be fine with bringing in Taylor as a planned bridge to a rookie and Kelly.
If Taylor is the 2nd best QB on the market, and there are multiple needs in need of a qb, don’t you think he’ll get starter money?
I’d be very surprised if he got in the same APY neighborhood as Matt Ryan or Cam Newton, who are making over $20M APY as you suggested upthread. I think he can get on the upper end of that gap I described, though. But we shall see.
Taylor obviously didn’t play well today, but important to remember he was playing on the road against the #1 defense by DVOA. The jaguars are also the #1 is passing defense dvoa, any/a, and are top 5 in just about every overall or passing defense category.
I’m not thrilled about him but we could do a lot worse, especially if his price is right. (but if he is the second best QB on the market, he could still command well over 20 million a year
None of the above.
Did Incognito come back into the game? After leaving early?
He bullied his way back in the game.
So far the underdog has covered in all 3 games. Wonder if we’ll get a 4th. I suspect we will, though I hope to hell NO destroys CAR.
The Panthers just had a very Chiefsy drive there: 15 plays, 63 yards, 7:37 of time of possession…and zero points.
Funny to see Ginn still in the league catching deep TDs, and Brady Quinn working for Fox, after the Dolphins got blasted for using a top ten pick on the former instead of the latter.
I want Brees to take out Brady in the SB.
That would also increase the difference of Super Bowls between Brees and Rivers/the Chargers to 2-0.
I want Bortles to take out Brady first. Coughlin did it to Marino, he can do it to Brady, right?
Saints are going to win the SB.
Anyone but New England or Pittsburgh.
Saints look dominant against a good Panthers Defense. Depends on how much Mugging NE can get away with.
Regarding the slate of NFL playoff games this weekend, I haven’t given this few shits since the time I took too many Immodium.
Looks like he is of the opinion we will be bargain shopping, linking us to every QB on the Vikings roster. How does the transition tag work? What if no one signs the transition tag? Does that player become a free agent, or does the team that tagged him have to sign him?
Off that list, Cousins or bust. The idea of paying a broken down proven loser like Bradford $16 million plus incentives is about as appealing as having everybody play barefoot next season.
For about a half this year, he played some of the prettiest QB I have ever seen. Kind of a bummer his body never gave him much a chance.
Bridgewater on a two year prove it and roll the dice on Mayfield (or leap at Rosen).
Bridgewater, at worst, can manage the game for a season. At best, you have a good dilemma.
I’m thinking if Denver signs Cousins, and Q. Nelson is gone at 5, they should addreess priority 1Aa, which is the middle of the defense. Maybe one of Fitzpatrick, Smith or Vea. I just can’t get excited about any of the top tier tackles playing RT. I certainly can’t see G. Bolles thriving at RT.
I do like Orlando Brown when he is good, but he seems to check out a lot, which usually doesn’t bode well professionally.
p.s. Roquan Smith looks nothing close to 225, and he is an angry, instinctive manimal on the ball field.
I would love to see them pick Minkah Fitzpatrick. He would make a much bigger impact than any OT they could pick. Upper tier athlete and unmatched versatility.
Look at how under control he looks at all times.
Great player, and it seems to make sense to try to get guys with special potential when you have the opportunity to pick that early. A FS with centerfield range, who can easily drop into the slot, and who is quite willing as a run defender would always be useful. He appears to have the mentallity to willingly and effectively compete with TEs, too.
If they don’t pick a QB, I hope it’s someone like Nelson or Fitzpatrick. Like you said, make the most of this pick and get a guy with All Pro potential, not someone who simply fills a need.
Chubb wouldn’t suprise me at all, either– if Dove Valley is open minded.
I imagine it’ll be Nelson or Brown. Brown, for all his mecurial play, can just engulf and shut a MFer down when he feels like it. Lots of folks, DV included, are gonna diefy him in the inspection process.
I don’t think any of these OT’s are worth top five picks, but I would probably lean towards Williams if I had to pick one. I know you’re not a fan.
If we drafted Minkah, that would be the end of giving up chunk plays to tight ends.
I don’t dislike Williams. I could find much to like.
I just don’t like his size in context to our undersized LT. I think Denver needs another mauler in the mix.
I wouldn’t bitch about McG, Williams or Brown
Minkah makes the game look easy.
Raise your hand if you thought this would happen in the stadium with the lowest elevation and not the one with the highest elevation. Bueller?
Temperature and humidity negates a huge amount of the altitude. Warm wet air is much less dense than cold dry air. Can play around with this air density calculator if you are curious.
Aw, this factual reply is no fun. : )
Newton just got flattened, oof.
Yeah, that looked like a good concussion check…
Gotta wonder why he wasn’t taken to the blue tent. That’s a concussion protocol moment if there ever was.
That was nice.
Ugh, I hate that playcall on 3rd down just before the two minute warning. That was DOA, the Saints should have thrown it or called a timeout to talk it over.
Wow, gutsy call there.
I like it though.
How does it take the alternate ref to realize that it carries a 10 second runoff when every fan watching the game knows it?
The officials this weekend have no idea when to apply a 10 second runoff.
Shit like this makes me think they need to make the refs full time if the refs don’t know the rules.
I’d need to see some evidence suggesting that making them full time could help this.
They would have more time to study the rule book since apparently they are fuzzy on the details
Brilliant blitz call there by old friend Dennis Allen. Newton had no chance.
What a way to lose. Sacked on 4th and 23.
Is it just me or did Funchess look like he was trying harder to draw a flag than trying to catch the football?
That there was some pussy shit my friend… all he had to do was step right and catch the ball
He learned how to pull away from a contested ball from the master.
I mean, I’d love to bring him to Denver, but funny.
