I know the usefulness of PFF is something that has come up around here a time or two. Apparantly at least 1 NFL lineman is not a fan.
    https://twitter.com/davediehl66/status/917022413640077314

    • Nick

      TJ Lang also slammed PFF.

      http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2017/09/13/tj-lang-pro-football-focus-is-absolute-garbage/

PFF also returned fire, we’ll see if they do so with Diehl, since he some add prominence as a broadcaster.

      • Yahmule

For a company that literally critiques every player in the NFL on a weekly basis, these guys are extremely sensitive and defensive when it comes to criticism.

As far as their ability to get teams to join their service, it’s certainly a nice accomplishment for them, but it’s a copycat league and as soon as two teams joined (for literally peanuts given an NFL budget) it wasn’t surprising they attracted more. All but a handful of teams subscribe to BLESTO or National Scouting Services, too. No respectable team would value the word of a scouting service over their own team employed talent evaluators, but they set a baseline on a wide range of prospects.

    • Yahmule

Anyone who remembers their desperate attention seeking negative grade on Aaron Rodgers after his five touchdown game has always been cautiously wary of anything PFF has to say. I consider them another research tool of many, since we only actually see a small percentage of games every week.

      http://www.foxsports.com/buzzer/story/pff-aaron-rodgers-negative-grade-packers-chiefs-mnf-092915

      • Andrew

I agree with you it’s interesting to see their grades but the way some people try and use them as gospel to make points is super annoying. I like the idea of their system but it’s exposed to individual biases just as easily as anything else.

    • ohiobronco

The criticism almost always comes from players and analysts who are threatened by what they do. Most also misrepresent what they do or how they are properly used. We all know they have their limitations but that doesn’t mean they don’t have some usefulness.

      • Forrest Trump

I appreciate their analysis more than the grades. Maybe my assumption is wrong, but I take comfort in the fact that unlike any other source of information, the analysis is based off of watching every single play with an attempt to put it into context of what else happened.

  • Nick

It was posted yesterday, but it’s cool enough that it deserves to be posted again on NFL day:

How does one give up- 327 yards on 14 carries, leaving aside that those numbers were put up by an 18 year old backup quarterback?

    October 8, 2017

    • Nick

Also, impressive was how Michigan held MSU to 76 total yards after the Spartans’ two scores, but still managed to lose. The reason why was a mind-boggling 5 turnovers in that span. Michigan needs some McCaffrey magic.

    • Alaskan

Having recently said that I had finally grown up and stopped yelling at the TV, my alma mater had me right back at it again during yesterday’s game in Boulder. It was terrible. They could not force a punt to save themselves. The defense really should have just gotten out of the way, since it was useless, and given the offense more time to try to match scores with AZ.

      • Jeremy

We should have gone for 2 (3) times haha.

    • Forrest Trump

I was skeptical that CU would ever be FBS competitive again. I’m still in that forgive almost anything stage, I guess.

      • Alaskan

“Picked to finish last in the Pac-12 South, Arizona (3-2, 1-1) won a conference game for just the third time in its last 16 tries. And, it won a conference road game for the first time since its last visit to Boulder, in 2015.” Ouch !!

        • Forrest Trump

Sure, but a couple years ago they were getting gutter stomped by MWC teams and getting drilled by Sacramento State.

It was truly brutal, but I never thought we’d get to the point where they would find themselves in should-win PAC games to screw up. That is progress, at least.

          • Alaskan

Yes, CU has left Embree football (where nobody expects anything) behind and moved back to Hawkins football, where they are just good enough to break your heart by losing close every time.

          • Forrest Trump

But they are trending up. 🙂

I actually don’t have much of a dog in the fight anymore, but I retain that sentimental attachment. If I was still as invested as I once was, I’d surely share your frustration.

    • Hank Mardukis

Thanks for burying that knife in my heart again. I thought I drank it away last night.

    • BlackKnigh

      23.35 yds/carry. Holy shit!

  • RSH
  • Forrest Trump

    I can’t decide between Oak-Balt, LAC-NY and Philly-Az this morning.

I’ve noticed an interesting phenomenon over the years, though: I almost never use my Sunday Ticket. The Networks are pretty good about putting the most attractive games in front of me on a week by week basis. (I would have to use it for Oak-Balt, but I assume about 90% of TA will be tuned into that one anyway, so I can get a lot of good information anecdotally on that one.)

Sunday Ticket is like car insurance. You almost never really need it, until you do. Then you’re glad to have it.

    • Forrest Trump

Carolina-Detroit might be pretty intriguing, too.

      • Nick

This is the main game that I’m going to watch.

    • Nick

BAL/OAK is a late game. Has to be since it’s in Oakland.

      • Forrest Trump

You are right. I wonder how I got the wrong impression on that one…

    • DCJ1

Days like this are what RZC is made for…

      • Forrest Trump

Yeah, and I’m likely to cut the cord after this season. Pretty much nobody in my household watches live TV these days anyway. I would have done it a couple years ago if not for the Broncos. But that is a steep price to pay for just for 4 months of NFL football, basically.

On top of that, my kids are at an age where just taking Sunday off to watch football isn’t all that realistic anymore. Too much chaos. Too many cats to herd. I won’t get to watch any of them gun-to-gun, anyway. Even uninterrupted Broncos games is a massive challenge these days.

        • Carsonic

Yep. I realized a while back that me monopolizing the living room for approximately 25% of my weekend would not make for good family dynamics. Consequently I use GamePass and take advantage of my natural early
rising tendencies to watch the games the following morning.

          • Forrest Trump

There is this myth that babies and toddlers are exhausting and older kids are easier and more manageable. That has not been my experience.

          • Dennis

This is fact! I constantly ask people at work if they’ll trade their babies or toddlers for my teenagers. So far I’ve had no takers.

          • Forrest Trump

Yeah, its like Game of Thrones around here, with all the sibling palace intrigue. I feel like a professional mediator half the time. That’s before you even get to the nuts and bolts family management stuff.

The little ones are much easier to satiate and appease. Once they get a sense of autonomy, all bets are off.

        • just this morning I went up in that attic and installed an antenna. I recently signed up for DirecTVNow which, for $35/month, gives me all of the cable channels (including a negotiated HBO for a year) and streaming. What I don’t get are the local networks. with the antenna, I can get clear reception for the typical local broadcast (Panthers). My intent is to just go to a sports bar for Bronco games that arent on TV.

Here’s the thing: usually at least 10+ Bronco games are broadcast. consider we typically get 5 national games (between sunday night, monday night, thursday), and there aren’t many western teams (that play in the late afternoon slot) that are any good, so when CBS gets to show the late game, they tend to show the Broncos.

        • ohiobronco

Probably my last year too. May go the Game Pass route. Watching after the fact would require a paradigm shift from emotional rooting to dispassionate interest.

          • Carsonic

From my perspective, it’s definitely different but if you keep from finding out the outcome it’s still pretty engrossing. The hard part sometimes is keeping myself from skipping forward when it’s really close.

        • I get you on the football taking over the whole Sunday, vs time with the wife, kids, and housework. That’s why I don’t follow college football, basketball, baseball, etc. Bronco games are all I have. The compromise we have is I have given up all other sports, but I get 3 hours a week for 16 weeks plus playoffs that’s all for me.

          • Forrest Trump

That is exactly how I tried to manage the conflicting dynamics. I shed most my sporting interests in trade for Sundays in the fall. It just doesn’t work anymore unless I want to be a total asshat.

Everybody in my family tries to respect the arrangement, but it isn’t realistic.

          • Forrest Trump

I gotta say: That 3 hour thing might be a workable compromise. I’m working the angles, might do a little beta testing on that this season. 🙂

          • I wish you luck! Don’t forget that it’s only 16 weeks too (plus playoffs) – you aren’t asking for 3 hours every week, all year.

          • BlackKnigh

I follow the Broncos and the baseball St Louis Cardinals. Also MLB playoffs. Otherwise – takes too much time. Sometimes I do not have time for much of them either.
I did the NFL rewind for a while – but I found that I was not using it very much. So I dropped it.

    • RyanHennigan
      • Forrest Trump

Those links seem to be much more reliable, too. I’m just burning money.

    • Yahmule

I flip around like crazy if I’m not watching the Broncos.

      • Carsonic

Isn’t that hard on the furniture? 😉

  • RyanHennigan

Let me know if anyone has a specific game they want to watch.

  • Nick

Wouldn’t mind if this game continues down the same path as a certain game not to be named also played in this stadium.

    • Forrest Trump

Bosa absolutely crushed Eli a few minutes ago. As in, “Will he get up” crushed.

  • Royalwithcheese

Is this the worst slate of games in the history of the league?

    • ohiobronco

I think so. Jets/Browns and Zombie Cutler vs Zombie Cassel should be straight out cancelled.

  • Forrest Trump

Giants are running right at SD with great effect.

  • Nick

Christian McCaffrey finally gets his first NFL touchdown.

  • Nick

Kenny Albert with the back to back triggering and detriggering moments:
–Ed Dickson won a Super Bowl with the Ravens.
–Ed Dickson is the only current Panther to win a Super Bowl.

  • Royalwithcheese

Giants just punted from the +37.

    • Jeremy

It was 4th and 7 though. That’s a spot where all your options suck

      • Royalwithcheese

True, but come on. Punt, touchback, net 17 yards.

  • Forrest Trump

I would prefer to face the Giants 1-4. I hate facing teams on a losing streak.

Both Sheppard and Marshall appear to have suffered multi-game injuries already today. The Giants could be severely understrength in the worst possible way next week.

  • Nick
    • GrizzlyB

I was about to mention that he was on pace to break Peyton’s rookie INT record — namely because they had no other options to turn to.

  • Nick

Panthers are dominating with their Receivers Of Unusual Size.

    • DragonPie

      I don’t think they exist.

      • Nick

The Lions’ DBs agree with you.

  • ElwayIsGod7

    Cam Newton looks like 2015.

    • Nick

Won’t truly be 2015 Cam Newton without getting embarrassed by the Broncos in the Super Bowl.

      • ElwayIsGod7

        Let us pray!

  • DragonPie

In North Dakota. They’re showing us the Steelers and Jags. Been a pretty good game so far.

    • DragonPie

Last two Pittsburgh drives ended in pick sixes.

  • Nick

Whatever window the Cardinals had is long shut now. That team has rebuild written all over it very soon. Wonder if Arians & Keim will be given the chance to be part of it.

    • I think Keim will be, he’s drafted pretty well. Will be interesting to see what happens with Arians. Hard to run his offense with an all but done Palmer and DJ on IR.

  • Forrest Trump

Cutler’s stat line is awe inspiring. 6-12 20 1 int deep in the 3rd? Can that be right?

  • Nick

A commercial is praising the Bucs’ win over the Giants that included Nick Folk making a kick. Might want to have redone that one before Friday was over.

  • Forrest Trump

SD might have left Jack Murphy Stadium, but they brought Murphy’s Law with them.

  • Jeremy

Is this the worst the AFC North has been since the re-alignment?

    • Nick

It was really rotten in 2003. Steelers went 6-10, Bengals finally started to emerge from their abyss, Ravens went one and done, and Browns gonna Brown.

  • Nick
    • Jeremy

      So close

  • Nick

Hope that going for 2 doesn’t bite the Giants in the ass in the end…

  • Nick

So awesome seeing those old school Rams jerseys in bright daylight. The way it should be.

And the Seahawks’ O-line still sucks, and allowed Donald to destroy the RB unblocked.

  • Dennis

49ers & Colts going to overtime.

  • ohiobronco

Apparent high ankle sprains for BM and OBJ.

    • Nick

Hard to imagine either of them playing next week if that’s the case.

      • Jeremy

They are going to need to sign some new WRs this week.

It’s bad to look ahead, but shut out potential for the defense next week?

      • ohiobronco

Torodol can do wonders but it didn’t look good for either of them. Ankles rolled severely outward and carted off.

        • Dennis

          Ride the T-train!

  • GrizzlyB

Raiders down 14-0 after ~4 minutes. yayyyy

    • Forrest Trump

They have no heart. They quit as soon as Carr was officially scratched. #KNOCKONWOOD

      • InSiemianWeTrust

        Same as last year.

  • Nick

Ugh, I really wanted Eli Manning to no longer be 0 for Chargers.

    • ohiobronco

Carson City needs 3 or 4 more losses. Too many AFCW rivals have risen from the dead over the years.

    • Jeremy

Very likely his last chance at it too, unless they either meet in the Super Bowl, or Manning is playing in 2021 (when Eli is 40), or Eli changes teams, or the Chargers are sent to the NFC out of some sort of realignment relating to LA. None of those seem at all likely right now.

      • WhoShotBobbyHumphrey

You have to think if they keep playing like this, Eli’s heir apparent will surely be drafted next year with that high pick.

  • Are the Jets the worst 3-2 team in a long while? I mean their defense is solid but whoop de doo another ugly win over a crap team. I’d love to see Broncos defense face em.

    • Jeremy

Your wish will be granted in December.

      • ohiobronco

McCown will not last until December.

      • Guess I should’ve said “I will love seeing…”
Yeah things will be different for them by then, and not in a good way.

    • John

Here’s what’s funny, though: They play NE next week at home, and I think they should be favored. The Pats aren’t the same team that they have been in the past, and I think that the Jets may win that one.

    • Yahmule

We might go to that game. I kind want to see if our defense could hold a team to negative total yardage.

  • Forrest Trump

Needed some of that Buck Allen FFL love. Dalvin Cook’s injury was a big buzz kill.

    • Hank Mardukis

I’ve lost Cook and Beckham so far this season.

    Go Baltimore

    • OnionKnight

Starting to feel like last year was the Raiders chance. Its all us and KC this year. They will be fighting for the 2nd wildcard spot and losing to Ravens is a big blow for them since its conference. Very similar to Buffalo for us.

      • Nick

Speaking of Buffalo, we all seemed to miss that they lost to Cincy. That’s good news for the Broncos, especially if they can beat the Bengals later on the year.

    • BlackKnigh

Baltimore has lost 4 OL guys this year. Out for the season.

  • DCJ1

Rodgers just ripped the heart out of Dallas.

    • BlackKnigh

4 down for DAL. They have to go 80 yards in 11 seconds.

  • Dennis

    I’m Aaron Rodgers bitch!

  • Royalwithcheese

Rodgers is the best today, no discussion.

    • InSiemianWeTrust

I just love watching this dude play. That throwing motion, specifically his forearm flick, is just unreal.

      • GrizzlyB

You seem to know a lot about forearm flicking.

        • InSiemianWeTrust

I broke up Aaron and Olivia Munn.

          • GrizzlyB

Olivia: *knocking on the bathroom door* “Aaron? Aaron! What have you been doing in there for the last half hour?”
            Aaron: “Practicing! Go away!”

            And she did.

  • Nick

So when the schedule was announced it looked like the Broncos were going to get the two toughest NFC East opponents at home. Now that looks completely reversed.

    • OnionKnight

I call for a second opinion on the original prognosis from the prognosticator’s prognostication! Properly my postulate is that the prosperity that teams were purported to possess by virtue of their players prowess has not progressed as the prognosticator prognosticated.

  • InSiemianWeTrust
    • Dennis

      One can hope.

    • Nick

I’m not sure if he was being sarcastic there, but he did talk about retirement last offseason. But there’s a big problem on his end: if he were to retire after this season, because the Steelers insist on tying up all guaranteed money in only signing bonuses, Roethlisberger would have to pay $12.4 million back to the Steelers if he did it.

    • BlackKnigh

      5 INTs. Whoa!

  • Nick

    Ugh, JJ Watt is down.

  • Dennis

If JJ Watt can’t come back in, this game is over.

    • DCJ1

Houston wasn’t going to do us a solid tonight anyway. They’re being outmatched, outgunned, and outcoached.

  • RSH

Whenever I see the new Verizon guy, I am filled with very unkind, angry thoughts.

  • GrizzlyB

Man, that is one jank-ass stunt to pull in an NFL game. I’m pretty sick of the Chiefs.

    • DCJ1

Must of missed it — what happened?

      • GrizzlyB

It was that trick play where their line didn’t get down in their stances before the snap and they threw a quick pass outside to try catch the defense off-guard. It’s just one of those things that you expect from high school teams, not professionals, and their offense is full of misdirection and tricks like that.

        • DCJ1

Yeah, Chumley Reid has been pulling a lot of that crap this year.

  • RSH

    The Texans are toast.

  • Yahmule

Oh this dude’s name is Charcandrick? I thought it was something weird like Carchandrick.

  • Yahmule

D’Onta Foreman still has the butterfingers.

  • DragonPie

Texans chickened out on going for two.

    • Yahmule

Feels like the Chiefs should be further ahead in this game.

  • Jeremy

In the AFC, only the Chiefs have more than 3 wins (soon to be 5). Only the Browns and Chargers have more than 3 losses.

All 13 other AFC teams are jumbled somewhere between 2-3 and 3-2. Broncos are 3-1, Dolphins are 2-2. Everyone else is either 3-2 or 2-3.

  • DCJ1

Is it unsporting to hope Kielce undergoes pain?

  • Royalwithcheese

The Texans just aren’t ready to compete at the Chiefs’ level.
