The second preseason game is where we start to see the team positions take place. Unfortunately, preseason games are often filled with penalties and this one is no exception. What killed us the most in this game were the bad penalties that gave the Texans much needed yards. Thankfully, there was more good than bad to walk away with in this game.
Things I liked:
- All offensive lines played well
- Brandon Marshall dominating on passing and rushing plays
- Brock Osweiler proved yet again that he can quarterback in this league
- Our defense has yet to allow a touchdown this preseason
- Special teams defense had a huge improvement
- Both CJ Anderson and Ronnie Hillman are proving to be great running backs
- Todd Davis and David Bruton Jr. were all over field
- Spencer Lanning’s hang-time looks really good
- Rookie cornerbacks Taurean Nixon and Tevrin Brandon made great plays
- Trevor Siemian most likely sealed his spot above Zac Dysert
Things I didn’t like:
- Holding penalties
- Manning struggled and only targeted DT or Owen Daniels
- Lack of 3rd down conversions
- Defensive penalties
- Montee Ball headed towards the pile instead of taking the hole
- Punt/kickoff return game still needs work
- No turnovers on defense
- Bibbs played unlike last week, but received no hand-offs
- Even though turnovers on offense were minimal, we shouldn’t allow scores
- Shaquil Barrett played awesome, but he’s got to keep his head in the game. Tearing off someone’s helmet is not okay.
