At 1 PM on Saturday, the Denver Broncos announced that 20 players had been cut and two players moved to meet the 53-man roster. They include:
- ILB Zaire Anderson
- ILB Lamin Barrow
- RB Kapri Bibbs
- WR Isaiah Burse
- CB Tony Carter
- C Dillon Day
- NT Sione Fua
- S Josh Furman
- G Ben Gardland
- TE Marcel Jensen
- ILB Steven Johnson
- TE Dominique Jones
- WR Corbin Louks
- NT Chuka Ndulue
- CB Taurean Nixon
- OLB Gerald Rivers
- T Kyle Roberts
- T Charles Sweeton
- WR Jordan Taylor
- DE Josh Watson
S TJ Ward and DE Derek Wolfe were put on suspended /reserve list.
Many fans, including myself, were curious why RB Montee Ball made the team and RB Kapri Bibbs didn’t. My initial reaction was that Bibbs was still practice squad eligible, while Ball may have been kept on as a potential trading maneuver. Given that we only have two full tight-ends (Owen Daniels and Virgil Green), I suspected that we would trade Ball for a TE.
Equally surprising, however, was that CB Curtis Marsh made it on the roster. In the game against the Cardinals, he scored -2.9 overall on Pro Football Focus with -3.1 of that coming from pass coverage. CB Tony Carter was let go after four seasons with the Broncos.
As we’ve done in the past four years, the next day saw more roster movement. Montee Ball and guard Gino Gradkowski were waived. The Broncos picked up center James Ferentz from Houston and tight-end Mitchell Henry from Green Bay on waivers.
Bob was really close guessing who would be signed to the practice squad. We immediately signed:
- WR Jordan Taylor
- C/G Dillon Day
- DE/DT Chuka Ndulue
- ILB Zaire Anderson
- OLB Danny Mason
- CB Taurean Nixon
I was really excited about Taylor, Ndulue, and Anderson getting added to the practice squad. Each of these guys have the ability to be solid backups in the league and could potentially be starters someday. We are very fortunate to have such a amazing depth right now.
By Monday morning, the following were added:
- RB Kapri Bibbs
- TE Arthur Lynch (Dolphins)
- OT Kyle Roberts
- DE George Uko (Buccaneers)
The depth chart is now available to see. My gut reaction is that this is highly unlikely the final roster. Keep in mind that TJ Ward is suspended for one week and Derek Wolfe is suspended for four weeks. The depth chart will alter when each of these guys return and we will see additional movement.
